由國家自然科學基金委員會工程與材料學部和中國工程院土木、水利與建筑工程學部聯(lián)合主辦、西安建筑科技大學承辦的第八屆國際結構工程青年專家研討會(ISSEYE-8)于2004年8月19~23日在西安曲江國際會議中心召開。來自美國、英國、日本、澳大利亞、新加坡、巴基斯坦、尼泊爾、中國等國家的100余名青年專家學者相聚古城西安,參加了這一學術盛會。西安市副市長喬征先生、國家自然科學基金委員會工程與材料科學部工程科學四處處長茹繼平先生、西安建筑科技大學校長徐德龍院士、日本大學理工學部研究生院院長Hiromi Adachi教授、長安大學校長周緒紅教授等出席了開幕式。

2009年10月在西安召開第八屆國際凍土工程會議,就凍土地區(qū)工程設計與建設、季節(jié)凍土區(qū)工程凍害防治、凍土物理力學特性、模型發(fā)展及其應用、寒區(qū)氣候、環(huán)境及冷生變化、多年凍土水文學、寒區(qū)水資源和土地應用等主要議題進行了廣泛交流,報告了近年來凍土工程與環(huán)境研究方面的一些新進展.從凍土工程設計、施工和評價、普通凍土研究、凍土的物理力學性質、凍土模型發(fā)展及應用、氣候變化及冰凍圈環(huán)境等方面對該次會議交流的成果進行了總結.與會研究者認為今后的研究一方面要加強理論研究、工程措施機理研究;另一方面要加強寒區(qū)環(huán)境對氣候變化的響應及反饋、以及環(huán)境變化與凍土工程措施之間的相互作用研究.
