木棉樹為什么被稱為英雄樹 ? 這英雄樹（木棉樹）絕非靠其外表的英俊、挺拔，而是靠實實在 在的英雄行動昭示后人的。話說在海南島五指山，有位英雄叫吉貝， 他多次率領(lǐng)黎族人民抗御外敵，屢連戰(zhàn)功，得到人民的愛戴。后因叛 徒出賣，被敵人圍困在大山上，身中數(shù)箭，仍屹立山巔，身軀化為一 株木棉樹，箭翎變?yōu)闃渲Γ?鮮血化成殷紅的花朵。后人為紀(jì)念他尊稱 木棉為英雄樹，把木棉花稱為英雄花。
